1. NARROW WEB for FLEXIBILITY and PERFORMANCE.
The history in the paper industry is wide web. A4-laser paper for instance comes
from ever wider webs, up to 14 pockets. This explains why it seemed natural to
also convert photo papers from wide mill rolls. To-day most photo papers from
4x6 to U4 are cut down on large sheeters, guillotined, counted, inserted, quality
control, wrapping/pocketing/boxing, labelling and overwrapping, many passes, too
many passes. Manufacturing A4-Photopaper and, even more, 10x15 Photopaper
in batches of 10 to 100 sheets requires a quite different approach than A4-reams
of 500. Moreover, photo paper is presented in another style to the consumers than
laser paper. The boxer, the pocketing machine or the wrapper determine the web
speed of the converting operation.
2. CONDITIONING OF PHOTO PAPERS.
AUTOMATION proposes the one-step IN-LINE system from narrow rolls of 450 mm
or 520 mm width. This produces finished packs in a single pass operation, hands-off,
impeccable quality. The Automation-solution opposes the wide web with all its steps
including the loading of feeders, counting, lifting, inserting into pockets or boxes.
The C98 industrial production is the non-stop flow of materials up to the filled carton.
3. SLIT the WIDE MILL ROLLS for SLIM WEB PRODUCTION.
A SLITTER-REWINDER brings the mill rolls down to a handy width of 420 mm or
440 mm. These rolls are unwound on the Automation-C98-II Converter with the
AA99-Turbo-Stacker, at choice with a BOXER, film wrapper or carton pocketeer
and a labeller or overwrapper. The boxing of A4 or U4 is done at a cycle speed
of up to 20 boxes per minute. At this rate and with 50 sheets A4 per box the web
speed is approx. 150 meters/minute.
For 20 sheets A4 per pack the web travels still 60 meters for 20 boxes per minute.
3.1. The C98-CONVERTER is offered for wrapping the packs in reclosable pockets
with hanger strip.
3.2. CARTON POCKETS or WALLETS are made on the C98-Converter with in-line
filling of 30 to 40 pockets per minute.
4. UNTOUCHED COATED SURFACE.
The AUTOMATION-C98-SYSTEM keeps the sensitive coated surface untouched and
perfect. All impact, rubbing or scratching is avoided. The complete process runs in
the secure 1-to-1 ratio of paper and machine components.
5. QUALITY CONTROL.
A highly important subject of photo paper conditioning is QUALITY CONTROL and
CLAIM PREVENTION. The C98-Converter allows for inspection at all times.
The complete line is compact, low risk and allows for a good overall view.
A4-Photopaper as well as U4, 10 x 15 and the other common sizes, are predestinated
for industrial production on the C98.
6. SIDE WEBS.
The here described narrow web technique is very suitable for side webs; rolls often
just recycled can now become a real money maker.
The integrated FT3-shear-cut slitter brings the webs to the required 2 x 210 mm
or 1 x 210 mm. A C98-Converter I (one wide) is available to handle 297 mm wide
webs for grain short A4 sheets or grain long A3.
7. PHOTO CARDS pushed by DIGITAL CAMERAS.
Special attention is demanded for the 10 x 15 cm and 4 x 6" PHOTO CARDS pushed
by DIGITAL CAMERAS with their high popularity and growth. These small sizes are
extremely suitable for the Automation C98-Converter. They run FOUR STREAMS
to the BOXER IV into lid-and-bottom boxes. Four streams can also go from the
AA99-Stacker to the 90ø Conveyor to transfer the photo cards into a FILM POCKET-
WRAPPER or into a packaging machine for STIFF CARTON POCKETS or WALLETS.
The carton pockets are fed from preprinted flats in one or two streams. Another
opportunity are interleaved bulk cards stacked and film wrapped up to 12 cm height.
8. HIGH SPEED STACKER A99-TURBO. THE CRUX FOR PHOTO PAPER.
The key to this industrial way of converting photo paper is the STACKER.
With the many years thourough stacker experience of Automation, superior
performance is obtained, for 10 x 15, 4 x 6, A4, U4 or A3 and even credit card size.
The multistream VACUUM FEEDER for inserts, the shear slitter and the HARD-CUT
SHEETER as well as the automatic transfer to the packaging machine are essential
in the photo paper business.
9. IMPECCABLE EDGES.
The sensitiv and critical coating of photo papers means highest quality demands for
perfectly clean cut edges. The quality of the guillotine cut is fully matched by the
Multicut IN-LINE cutters of the Automation C-98 for trimming the packs at 4 sides
and at full speed. The rotary hard-cut of the HW40Z-sheeter used in the C98 offers
very good quality edges as well, whilst rotary shear-cutting is often below standard.
10. BACKSIDE PRINTING.
BRANDING is an essential marketing tool for a widely used mass product like photo
paper. This vital consumer article can now be made with a logo of the provider or a
bar code on the back. The C98-Converter is offered with a UV-flexo unit and enables
to print modest quantities as well as large runs.
11. STARTER CONFIGURATION.
At a lower investment a starter configuration can be considered, consisting of an
unwind unit, a (full variable) shear-cut sheeter, a high-speed stacker to deliver counted
and interleaved stacks of a hight like 12 cm. At choice the packs can be in the range
of 30 x 40 cm or 40 x 50 cm, or any other practical size, as required for the final sheet;
the guillotining waste is minimal.
The delivered packs by the stacker are cut down to size with the available guillotines
on the shop floor; manual inserting takes place preferably in low labour areas.
The STARTER CONFIGURATION EXPANDS with increasing business to a complete
in-line system including conditioning in pockets.
